I would just like to say that Eric MacMillan was always a good, honest Prefect and Head Boy. He has always been fair and level headed. To ever think that he has Neopurist values is completely absurd in my opinion. And as for his father I have to admit I don't know the details of electing a Minister but I'm sure that the Ministry has done a thorough background check of his credentials.
I have to say all the mud slinging lately makes me almost want to cancel my newspaper subscriptions.

I guess the field trip isn't going to be reinstated since this is the day they would have announced it. At least you tried, Candice. I'm a little disappointed, of course, though I'm not completely certain that I'd have gone anyways since I'm trying to utilize more of my free time for OWLs studying. I heard that the older students are making a study group for NEWTs. Maybe some of us Fifth Years could think about making a group? I'm already trying to work up a schedule for myself.

I've realized that even with the recent announcement on proper use of the phones, some of the students who aren't used to using technology are still having trouble working them.
( Phone Diagram )
This is a much more old fashioned model of phone than the ones we have. But I think it's easy to figure out where the same components are.
Here are some tips for using the phone: 1. When you pick up the handset, make sure that you speak into the transmitter end and hold the reciever end to your ear to listen. I've noticed a lot of people having trouble because they're holding it upside down. 2. Make sure to properly put the phone back on the switch hook when you are done otherwise we won't be able to hear the ring when someone calls us. 3. Please be aware of your voice level when using the phones. I know that the level of static makes it difficult to hear, but shouting through them is very distracting for the rest of the people in the Common Room. 4. Er, try to be careful of the sparks if you can.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed that we won't be able to call our families, but I'll be interested to see if they have any other use for people in the Common Rooms.

I've made buttons that read "Students Against The Slambook" for anyone that wants to encourage the immediate disposal of the Slambook upon finding it. I even got them to blink! But you can turn it off too so they're not as distracting.

The Slambook is evil. Pure evil. Everything that comes out of it leads to absolute catastrophe and disruption of unity of the student body. And I have to say that the most recent entry is the WORST yet. Those accusations were simply horrendous. Who ever wrote them ought to be completely and utterly ashamed. And a lot of them were just out and out lies that were meant to make people look or feel bad about themselves. It sickens me.
I know some people may argue that it's not the Slambook's fault, but rather the people who use it but I think time has shown that the overwhelming majority of people simply use it for destructive purposes. It must be put to a stop.
I am pleading with anyone who gets their hands on this book to please turn it in. For the good of the school. It's just a breeding ground for immorality and appalling behavior. I strongly suggest everyone to stop commenting and giving it so much attention because it simply encourages said behavior. We need to put this to an end.
And finally, I am NOT ENGAGED to set the record straight.

Well, I certainly had an interesting weekend. You see, my cousin, Bridget, is very into theatre and preforming arts. So she invited me to come and see her performance in a musical this weekend. It's probably not a musical many wizards have heard of unless you have muggle relatives. It's called The Rocky Horror Show. It was. Um. Like I said -- interesting.
I didn't really get what the point of it all was but everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun so I guess that's a good enough reason. It was a little, er, graphic at times. And very strange. I'm still not really sure what it was acutally about either. The audience was being very loud and distracting through the whole thing and at first I thought they were all being extremely rude until my cousin told me later that that's what they were supposed to do. It was really like nothing I've ever seen. But Bridget has a really fantastic voice so I enjoyed hearing her sing and I always like seeing her perform.

Well, the dance was pretty...fun! A little nerve-wracking but Fun. Unfortunately, my dance skills haven't seem to have gotten any better since last year. I hope both of you girls enjoyed all four of your corsages. You both looked very lovely.
Group dates are a great invention!

I'm proud to say that I already have most, if not all of the Christmas gifts I plan on giving this year mapped out. I've still got to go about getting a hold of some of them, though I've begun to order some things. It's such a relief to have it started already, though!
Unfortunately, I found our Professor Warrington snowman knocked down today, Juliana. Oh, well, I suppose it wasn't meant to last. At least I was able to retrieve my hat, though.

I was speaking the other day to someone who was particpating in this Secret Santa business and they were a bit discouraged with the fact that they weren't sure what kind of gift to give. I know officially Gen said we're doing mostly notes and things, but most people seem to be including at least a little bit of candy or something? I thought I might volunteer my journal for people to state what their favorite kind of candy and general interests are so that the Santas can better find an appropriate gift to include.
It goes without saying, but of course make your requests reasonable. I thought this might be a good opportunity to give people more inspiration for their thoughtful gifts. Of course, you don't have to give people a gift. Notes are perfectly acceptable. But knowing the recipient's interests better could help you figure out what to say that might encourage them.
Also thank you, Madeleine for going over Transfiguration with me. It was a big help.

It's SPREADING.
This sickness is awful. Three classes have already been canceled! THREE! If we miss one more day, we're going to have so much homework this weekend to try and catch up.
And yes, I know I look quite silly but I'm not taking any risks on getting this sickness and missing even more class. I brought plenty of rubber gloves and doctor's masks with me to school just for such an occasion, though I had intended to save them for when we were deeper into flu season. But better safe than sorry! I'll ask my mother to send me more, so if anyone wants to use some I have plenty to spare! I wonder if she'd send me some of her scrubs from work if I asked.
I also recommend sterilizing every surface before using it -- that's what I've been doing. Even if you are using gloves and masks. Just to be extra careful. The less this spreads, the better off we'll all be. And the sooner classes will be reinstated. I really have no idea what to do with myself without class.
I've already sanitized the Common Room top to bottom. Twice. Maybe I'll do the Ancient Runes classroom next. Can never be too careful, right?

It's probably much too late in the year to look in joining more clubs, isn't it? With all the excitment of learning my prefectly duties, I'm afraid I forgot about looking into ones other than Charms. Not that I'm thinking of quitting Charms! Please don't anyone tell Professor Frobisher that I'm going to quit Charms Club! I'm just looking to add since people are starting to comment that I'm spending too much time in my room again as a prefect I think it would be a good idea to become more socially active and involved with the activities of my peers. I'm not quite sure where to begin, though.
There was a very interesting article in the Prophet yesterday. Apparently there are several indicators that the economy is showing small signs of improvement. Of course, it's much too early to tell if it's the Minister's stimulus plans or a natural fluctuation of the system but I still thought it was rather good news to hear. Especially after that mess of auditing. Merlin.
